At the District Court, before District Judge Haeelden and a jury of four, William Comber Brown, mining engineer, Christchurch, and his wife, Louisa Brown, o'aimed .£3)O from Andrew Young, of Ashburton, and his wife, Ellen Young, for slander contained in a letter addressed to a Christehu eh resident, in which they alleged that plrntiffs had left without paying for board and residence due to Young, and that Mis Brown stole £2 while residing at Young’s. The jury awarded plaintiffs £SO and costs, JCII 143 41.
