The attention of our Coastal readers is directed to several special advertisements dealing with the two contests. The Seoretary of Mr Lissaot Claytm’s Committee has received the following telegram from Mr W. F. Massey, leader of the Opposition : “ Letter reoeived. You may make it public that I acknowledge Mr Lissant Clayton as the Opposition candidate for Waiapu.” The Government has granted the County Council £4OO for the Waihnka Valley road, £250 for Puatae-Tuawhahi, and for Karaka to Poututu £3OO. on conditions that tba Couocil gives a like sum. | The Borough Council has received advice • of the granting of a further £4OO loan .for the abattoirs.
At his meeting at Patutahi last evening Mr G. E. Darton stated that a rumor had reached him that he was being paid the sum of £IOO by Mr W. K. Chambers to contest the seat Bgainst the Hon. James Carroll in the Liberal interests. He (Mr Darton) gave an emphatic denial to the statement, and explained that the whole cost of bis expenses was being borne by bia committee.
Mr Leonard M. laitt writes to nsjjfrom Timaru denying a statement attributed to him in regard to hotels in other parts of tho colony. He concludes: “I never made any such statement or inferred anything so monstrous. In 31 years I have beard of Only two hotels immorally conducted.” - The letter is dated November 24tb,
