The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. GISBORNE, NOV. 23.1905. LAST NIGHT’S MEETING.
The conduot of a certain eection at the meeting addreseed by Mr W. Douglas Lyenar last night was not a credit to Gisborne, nor should it bo very pleasing to the no-license party, whose: cause must suffer materially from the disgraceful behavior of those who have no sense of fair play. It might have beeu said that the uproar was due to a baud of larrikins, and had no more significance than ordinary larrikioism engendered by a spirit of mischief. Bnt the fasts place a serious responsibility on the no-license party. The band perhaps was not great, but it was well organised. There was dearly a determination to try and prevent Mr Lysnar speaking at all, and the contrast when a no-license advooate got up was remark, able. -As none of the no-lioense meetings have been interrupted in this disorderly way the condition of affairs is more notloeable. Whatever may be the efifeot of Mr Lysnar's arguments there oan be little doubt that the attempts made to prevent his being heard can only have one efifeot, and that is, detrimental to the party that adopts suoh taotics.
