DUNEDIN FATALITY.
(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. An inquest was held on Saturday touching the death of Alfred Lawson Price, killed by being run into by a train while riding a motor cycle. The evidence showed that tbe warning bell at Kensing ton was set going as soon as the train left Caversham, and the crossing keeper showed red iights in eaoh direction. Deceased was seen riding in tbe direction of tbe crossing just about midnight at a high rate of speed, and it is supposed be attemp ted t) cross before the train, and seeing tbe danger when the ongine was on him swerved to the right, the engine stnki.-jg the rear wheel. tloned the driver of tbe train, with a view to showing that the tables system interfered with his giving proper attention to the line ahead, and to the Wesinghouse brake. He said he did not blame the driver, who was a caiefulman, but tablets should be taken automatically. The jury returned a verdiot that deceased was killed by an aooideutal fall from ;a motor bioycle, but thoro was not sufficient evidenoe to Bhow how the accident occurred. The r recommended that tbe railway authority s be urged to take farther precautions forthe safety of the public at Kensington cross ing. Until very reoenty bars which blooked off tbe road descended on the approach of tbe train, but when the street was widened these wore dispensed with, houses preventing any view of appioaobing
