Admiral and Lady Rawson sailed for Australia on Friday, , though Lady Rawson is said to have declined in health on board.
Mr Bowden, editor of the Adelaide Register, read a paper before , the Royal Colonial Institute on the Anglo Australian position from an Australian standpoint. He regretted Australia’s unpopularity in England, which was the result of misconception. There was no fear of extreme Socialism crystallising in Australia. It was already; declining owing to Australian com-mon-sense. He denied Australia’s attitude on naval defence was unworthy, and said he was amazed at the violent attacks on Australian solvency. If reptilsed in London, Australia sought elsewhere to secure better treatment. Lord Brassey, who .presided, and Mr. Jenkins paid tributes to the Australian press. Sir Thos Fowell Buxton deprecated Australian hostility to the Japanese. He hoped the Motherland and the colonies ■ would arrive at an understanding, or else the risk of divergent policies would be: great. f . Mr James, West Australian AgentGeneral, said Australians were enti~ tied to sympathetic consideration because they were more imperilled by Eastern nations than the rest of the Empire. ~ Bombay Nov. 15.
