TAREWA NOTES.

A meeting of telephone subscriber 8 , was held in the Morere schoolroom on 1 Saturday, 4th November, Mr Prondlock presided. The telephone construction committee’s report was read and approved. It was resolved that the old committee he re-elected to complete the erection of the telephone line from Morere to Nuhaka; that any surplus funds in hand to be used in aid of the work of continuing the line to Waikokopu. Messrs Stewart Vaughan, J. Reynolds, Austin, Me* Kain and A. Riddle were appointed a general and maintenance committee. After a somewhat animated disoussion the meeting adjourned. v The work of shearing is much retarded by the showery weather which has prevailed here , during the past week. Some improvements are being effeoted on the Morere-Gisborne road, which is now passable for vehicles, The mail coach and the Tarewa companys’ wool waggon have made their first- trips this season. The bpsh felling contracts are almost completed, and the matter of getting reliable rnenior the work has been difficult. The area of bush felled in the district this season is about 2,000 acres, and in some localities there is considerable diversity of opinion between employers and employees as to the quality of the work done. A herd of about 700 heads of cattle from Waikato, en route for the Matawhero sale yards, passed through the district on Thursday last.
