CUP DAY. Melbourne, Nov. '7. The weather for Cap Day was a typical hot, sunny Australian day, There was a tremendous atteodanoe on Ihe lawn, hill and fiat. The oonrse was in magnificent condition, and it was a brilliant spectacle from every vantage point. It » estimated that 100,000 people were present. There was a large party from the Federal and ioter-State Government Houses, with their respective Buites. Daring the Gup race the grandstands never presented a more brilliant spectacle, thousands viewing the famous race from tho adjoining hills. - V , A singular incident occurred in the Gup Hurdle tßaoe. Allan, the rider of the winner, Florin,, broke a stirrup leather, and riding a desperate finish won with a stirrup iron in his mouth. In the birdcage the Gup candidates were eagerly oritioised, especially the favorite, Tartan. Oauteen and Gladsome, too, had many admirers, while Mauiapoto, who put in a late appearance, was scanned critically. The first pair to go out on the oourse for their preliminaries was Emir aod Oanteen, who were quiokly followed by the remainder of the field. The New Zealand-owned horse Maniapoto was well up at the turn, but the final stage found him out. Blue Speo put in a megnifioent run, and outting down the opposition .won like a raoehorse in the reoord time of 8.275. - With the running of the Yen Yean Stakes and the Jnvenile Stakes the Melbourne Gup day of 1905 passed into the domain of history. •
