I The weather promised fair for the thiri day of the Canterbury Jookey Club’ Metropolitan Meeting, but after the seoon race, a thunderstorm with a downpour o rain and hail, passed over Ricoartoo, ant the Canterbury Cup, Jookey Club Hand! cap and the Avon Welter Handicap wer run in heavy rain. The weather thei cleared, but the going was very heavy The totalisator investments reached £11,661. The results were Suburban Handicap Miss King J Waiwera 2, Scottish Minstrel 3. Alst started : Catherine Gordon, 'Beside,: W Waks, Bongoa, and Error. Miss Kinf took the lead along the back, and won a length. , Time 3.1 4-5, dive. £2 15s- and 16s 6d. • ■ ■ - , Spring Nursery Handicap—Kirremuh 1, Lady Landon 2, Star and Stripes 8 Also started : Huascar, Lapland, Snow* >shell, Golden Gate, Kuastikok, Aimee Boult, Sonia, and Culmination. Kirremuf.r was the quickest away, and won by two lengths. Time, 50 sec, diva. £1 17s and £2 5s 6d.
CANTERBURY CUP, of 500 sovs, weight for age ; 2* miles. Noctuiform, 7.6 (carried 7.9) 1 Mahutonga, 9.2 2 Only starters. Won with the greatest of ease by 12 lengths. Jookey Club Handicap—Signalman I, Vladimir 2, Ghryeeis 3. Also started: Achilles, Convoy, Crichton, Sir Tristram, and Appollodoris. A splendid race, won by a neck ; the same distance between second and third. Time 1 45, diva. £3 9j and £1 6s.
Avon Welter Handicap—Makaroff 1, Speculate 2, Lady Wayward 3. Also started: Brighton, Blytbemaid, Beau Seaton, Lee-Enfield, Black Diamond, Bagpipes, Somaroff, Ability, Perdita, Nodus, aud Poplar. Won easily by two and a-half lengths. Time 1.34, dive. £l7 38 6d and £9 12s 6d.
OAKS STAKES, of 400 sovs : 1* miles. IboU 1 Vardo ... 2 Tsitschar ... ... ... 8 Also started : Czarevna, Marguerite, aud Petticoat. The latter made the early running, with Isolt following. Rounding the top turn Petticoat was beaten, and Isolt won easily by five length. Time 2.48, div. £1 5s 6d.
Ashley Handioap—Medallist 1, Beresina 2, Zetland 3. Also started : Ai'sa, Pas Seul, To morrow, Ingleneuk, Largesse, Canticle, and Lady Lyonors. Beresina led until 50 yards from home, when she was overhauled by Medallist, who won by half a-longth. Time 1.17 3-5, diva. £9 2s 6d and £5 Is.
Electric Plate—Cunieform 1, Machine Gun 2, Glenowlet 3. Also started; Master Alix, Chivalry, and Valodia. Won by a length. Time 48 1-5, div. £8 7s.
