CHRISTCHURCH NEWS.
(Per Press Association.) Chrißtchuroh, last night. A very Bovere thunderstorm, accompanied by cold and boisterous wind, a little hail, and drenching show rs of rain, burst over Obriatohuroh at 2.30 yesterday, and quickly ohanged the whole aspect of the city, which, a short 'time before, had been bright, with sunshine. The streets were delnged in a few minnto°, and the water in the channels soon ran level with the kerbs in Cathedral Square and in some of the prinoipal thoroughfares. • The rain seems to be pretty general in the country, where it is expected damage will be done. The storm has come np from south, having travelled over South Canterbury, soaking the country as it came along. The flashes of lightning were very vivid,
Mrs Vojoe, a resident of Templeton, was fouuci on Tuesday with her throat severely out. Bhe was taken into the Christchurch Hospital in the evening, and lies there in a perilous condition. The wound was made with a razor. Mrs Voyoe has been suffering from melancholia lately. i A man named Frederick Mills, fell off the tram at the Bank of New Zealand corner last evening. The wheels passed over oue of his legs.
