Clothier is definitely announced as a candidate for Hurunui seat. He is an oppositionist, freeholder, and prohib tionist.
Dunedin, last night. E G.'Allen, member for Chalmers, ana a candidate for re-elootion, addressed a well attended meeting at North-East Valley this evening. His epeeoh was a defenoe of the Government legislation and administration, and at the close a vote o thanks and confidence was adopted, tnose present pledging themselves to do everything to secure his return. Auckland, last night., Mr Graham, City Coroner, held .an inauiry into a case of fire whioh occurred on the night of November 2nd, or. in the early hours of next morning, in a house in Micnmondßoad. The house was owned by Mr Davenport, and let to MisaHelett, who sub-let a portion of it to Dr Gowlland. The fire only did about 30s worth of damage to the door. After a retirement of about 40 minutes the jury returned a verdict that Dr Gowlland had in a fit of frenzy lighted the fire with the sole intention of frightening Mrs Gowlland, but without any intention of burning down the house.
