MANAWATU SHOW.
(Per Ftess Association.) Palmerston North, yesterday. _ More rain fell here last night and this morniog, but a drying wind is bearing up the show grounds. Great orowds of people have arrived, the trains being paoked. Yesterday the attendance was a reoord for the second day, fend the promise of another reoord is being soored to-day. In draught horses F. Bremer, of Normanby, Taranaki, won tho poiots prize of £25 with 44 points; Gammon and Co., Palmerston, second, 35 points. Additional championships are: English Leicester, ram, Slack Bros., Palmerston ; ewe, Perry Bros., Wairarapa. Southdown (in wool), ewe and ram, J. Stuokey, Wairarapa; (shorn), ram, Mrs B, Slack ; 'We,J. Knight. Jndging was finished this morning. The day is devoted [to sight-seeing and contests in the ring.
ABOUT 24,000 PEOPLE PRESENT.
(Per Press 'Association.) „ j I Palmerston North, last night. 1 I Fair weather prevailed ior "People’s I j)ay " of the Manawatu A. and P. show, and when the attendance was at its I greatest it is estimated that between I 28,000 and 24,000 people were present on the grounds. The takings brought the total for the show up to £2744 93 6d, an increase of £304 15s 9d on last year. The greatest interest was evinced in the com- ; petitions in all departments of the show.: The public have been well riatered for this year. The members’ grandstand accommodated 6000 people during the greater portion of the afternoon. The results of the competitions, all of whiob were ran on with commoodable despatch, were as foi j Pony leaping—Tamati Potaka’s Rata 1. Ladies’ driving—Mrs F. 8. Mcßae 1, Miss A. G. Robertson 2. .. . , Ladieß* riding—Miss J. Campbell 1, Miss L C. Moor® 2, Miss Reynolds 8. Hooters’ competition (26 competitors)— J W. D. Watson’s Yeast 1, J. H. MoNtven s I Pickpocket 2, Mr Noake’s Mignon 8. Military event— Feilding Mounted Rifles 1, Maoawa&u Mouhfeed Rifloa 2, Alexandra J Rifles (Wanganui) 8. Late judging results are as follows.— Romney Marsh champion ram—B. Short!, Waituna West. A special prize for the moat meritorious Invention relating to agricultural machinery or implements was won by W. Brew, j Christchurch, with an improved bearing The championship in draught horses, sire or oolt, went to H. Campbell, and mare or filly to F. Bremner, while the most points iu draughts were won by F.
