SEDUCTION OF OUBTOMB DUTIES

Wellington, last night. Mr Boddon and Sir Joseph Ward ad* dressed a orowded meeting in tho Opera Houso to night, reviewing the work of the past session. The Premier announced the intention of Government to* reduce the Customs duties next session in the direction of a free breakfast table, also to take something off the present duty on tabaooo. If it were found the expenditure and revenue were getting too close there would be an increase in the graduated land tax. Government also intended to k endeavor to esttblish a system under M.,,which pensions would be paid to every W'ioul in tho oolony, people paying a little ? money at a time, which would be subeidised bythe State. In supportiogthe Japr anese alliance, the Premier said the Japanese did not want to oomo to New Zealand, and would not bo allowed to if they did.
