Weigbtman and attempting to commit, a crime, Thompson was committed for trial and Ramsay acquitted. Wellington, last night. The Premier left for Ohristohurch tonight. . ; , At the City Police Court to-day, Jantes Williams, a native of Mauritius, was remanded until November 6th on a charge of landing in the colony, he being a prohibited immigrant. It appeared that the man came to the oolony from Sydney as cook of tbe steamer Blenheim, having shipping at Sydney for the run over. The remand was granted in order that defendant might be returned to Australia by a steamer leaving on Saturday. - : • At the Arbitration Court to-day, the Wellington, Havelook, and Motueka Steamship Comp'ny was fined £5 for having failed to pay seamen employed on the Mauaroa overtime while working at bayß in Palorua Sound. The Agricultural, Industrial, and Labor Conference, known as the Parliament of Labor, meets at Christchurch on February 15th.

Mr W. H. Price, chief <3lerk in the Postoffice here for the past 17 years, is retiring on a pension after 42 vears’ service, and was to-day presented by the members of tbe staff of tbe local and district poeto£6gb with a silver tea and coffee -service. Mr Price intends to reside in Dunedin, in which oity he first entered the service.
