Betting continues only moderate over the Melbourne Gap. Scot Free was supported for another £2OOO at 100 to 8, after which 10 to 1 was the best offer. Warroo was backed to win £2OOO at 100 to 10. closing at Bto 1. Aurate was introduced into tbe betting, and £2OOO to £6O was taken about his ohanoe. Maniapolo remains at tbe head of the list, and is still quoted at 6to 1. Other quotations ate : Emir 11 to 1, Marvel Looh, Torah, and Gladsome 14 to 1.
TRAINING NOTES. (Pei! Presa Association. 1 ) ' Christchurch, last night. The weather was fine and the going fair for the training' gallops. There was , nothing sensational in the work done. , j Quarryman held Gay Bpark safe over 1J " miles in 2.21£. Golden, Knight was beaten by Calibre over 1£ miles in 2,50. Achilles end Ghoorka had a sound gallop over 10 furlongs in 2.21. Aohilles. cn the inside, was going best at the finish, hut neither was extended. Both performed pleasingly. Golden Gate seemed to easily hold Zimmerman 07er .three furlongs. Buish and Waiwera, in fine buckle, ran two circuits at half-speed. Boris was better than Marguerite at the end of the first five furlongs. Pas Seul beat Blaok Diamond over six furlongs in 1.25. Veneer i.lone easily ran 1£ mileo in 2.64 2-6. Mystification, Mahutonga, and MuDgista broke away, the latter pulling off after throe fariongs, whilst Mystification beat Mahutonga by several lengths at tbe end of a mile in 1.52 1-5. Mahutonga was distinctly disappointing, and is apparently baokward. Obivalry raa four fnrlongs - ; easily in 53sec. Molodeon and Lyrist did the iaet mile at three-quarter epeed. Mohican and Handsome Bose jumped splendidly over four flights of hurdles, the former showing best. A large number of other horses did useful but unimportant tasks. Maobine Guo, working late, did o sound gallop of six furloDgs.
