Obristohurch, last night. The weekly offioul review of the progress of the New Zealand International Exhibition states that at a meeting of the Maori committee a communication was reoeived from the Hon. J. Carroll, Native Minister, advising the committee that immediately after the elections he would be very glad to attend a meeting of the oommittae ' for the purpose of assisting to organise a complete soheme for a representative Maori exhibit. It was generally reoognised that the New Zealand International Exhibition was likely to be the best opportunity available for suoh a purpose. Plans and specifications for the art gallery are practically oompleted, and tenders will be invited daring the coarse of the next few days. The buildings is to be of brick, and will be made thoroughly fire-proof. The selection committee, has Bet up a housing and residential accommodation committee to organise a scheme for the purpose of ascertaining the existing available .room in hotels, boardinghouses, etc.; also to ascartoin to what extant travellers can be accommodated in private houses among those who do not generally take boarders; and genet-ally to ascertain the fall extent of acoommoda-

tion that r the travelling public can rely upon, suggesting that the Tourist’s Department and Cook and Son’s agency should be consulted, and if those agencies do not intend to take up the special business of housibg travellers, then the committee will formulate ! a scheme whereby all travellers will be met on arrival and the available aco.-mmodation properly classified and plaoed before them. A speoial meeting of the building committee was held yesterday a’ternoou to receive and open tenders for the main building of the Exhibition and annexes. Nine tenders were reoeived, the lowest of which being satisfactory, the building committee recommended it for acceptance, It was decided not to disclose the amounts of the tenders until such tuns as the recommended tender had been formally accepted by the Government. Applications for space are still co-uing in freely. The total number applied for to-day amounts to 9494 square feet.
