The Rev. L. M. Isitt and Mr W. Thomson to-night 'debated " Is nd-lioeuse and its legal consequences as understood by New Zealand law justifiable in a Christian democracy ?" Each spoke three times, occupying one hour in all, Mr Isitt opening the debate. The theatre was paoked. The audieuee was manifestly largely sympathetic with the no-license movement. On the platform the method and taotics of the well-known prohibition advocate showed to better advantage than hiß opponent. He was more favorably reoeived throughout, while Mr Thomson was frequently interrupted. No;vote was taken. Mr MoGregor presided. Sixpenoe was oharged for admission, and the Hospital extension fund will benefit to the. ex;tent of about £3O.
