ANGLICAN SYNOD
NO LICENSE CONDEMNED. (Per Press Association.) , Dunedin, last night. The Angiioan Diooesan Synod has eonoladed its session. The following resolutions were carried-“ That this Synod, while deprecating the evils of intemper-' anoe, does not consider no-lieense is a proper remedy, and thinks that reform shonld be made (1) by the abolition of drinking bars, (2) by a strict enforcement of the law by magistrates and police, (3) by a rigid, enquiry into the character of those who apply for licenses, and (4) by withholding licenses from houses that are not well oonduoted/’ “ That it is desirable that any form of gambling licensed by the State shonld be abolished/ 1
