EXHIBITION

'(Eer Press Association.) Wellington, last night

Beference was made to the Christcburoh Exbibitisn at the annual dinner of the Industrial Association. Mr P. Ballinger said it would be very interesting and would bring a large inflax of visitors. Indirectly the gain would be large, but they could hardly expect it to bo a financial success. Most big exhibitions ended iu a loss. The small ones held by looal industrial associations had all shown a proßt. Replying to a toast, Mr 8. Brown said he was doubtful as to the after offeots of the exhibition. It was his view that other countries would uso New Zealand as a dumping gaound after the exhibition. With all this stuff dumped on tho markets, there would be a depression, and tho loss would fall on the colony as a whole. At another stage the Bame speaker said that in many lines manufacture in New Zealand would be largely crippled at no very distant date, and we wore not training up any artisan olass. The Harvester Trust was also a topio of the speeches, the general oonsensub of opioiou from members of Parliament and others present being that something must be done, end it was hoped the Labor Conference would be able to como to a modus vivendi.

Blenheim, last night.

Tho Marlborough Chamber of Commerce resolved that a committee bo set up to arrange for the representation of this province at the International Exhibition at Christchurch, and that with this end in view a conference of local bodies be convened for tho beginning of next month. Confidence was expressed, that Marlborough would be able to establish an exhibit of barley, oats, flax, wool, aud other produoe second to none. It was stated that shearing had been oommenced, but doubtless the pastoralists would have their best fleeces for exhibition. There is every prospeot of the matter being taken up with ontbußiasm.
