FIRING A PISTOL.

THE ACTION JUSTIFIED.

(Fez Press Association.) Auckland, last night.

Albert Gabriel, a restaurant-keeper, pleaded not guilty in the Polioe Court to a charge of firing a pistol without reasonable oause in Albert street. Evidence given by Constable Mulloly showed that Gabriel admitted to him that he fired the pistol. The defendant’s explanation at the time was that four or five men ••rushed” him, and he fired to frighten them, aa he waa afraid they were going to rob him of £l3O worth of mooey and jewellery which ho was oarryiog. Gabriel cave evidence, repeating bis statement made to the constable. “You did a very reasonable and proper thing,” deolarod his Worship, and dismissed the information.
