ANNUAL BHOW.

The Poverty Boy Agricultural and Pastoral Society were favored with glorious weather for the opening day 6f their annual show yesterday, and the attondanoo was well up to the average of previous yoars. In point of numbers the entries wsro most eatisfnetory, whilst the quality of the exhibits showod a great improvement. The extensive improvements offeoted by the sooicty was tho subject of much congratulation on the part of visitors, who were loud in their praise of tho up-to-dato appointments which have boou made dars ing the presont year, There was a fine display of sheep, thoro being no less than 240 entries, as compared with 160 last year, and oompotitiou in all classes was ■ remarkably good. In tho classes for horses there was keen competition, the number of ontrios being 496 as against 481 last year. As usnal, tho quality of tho exhibits was of a first-class oharaotor. V Thera was a slight falling-off in the number of cattle shown, but this was more than made up in tho ontrios of sheep, whioh constituted a record. There was a

largo general entry, and competition waa particularly koon. Tho arrangements made for tbo gathering were all that oould bo desired, and the energotio secretary, Mr H. M. Porter, came in for a deal of congratulation for the manner in whioh everything was oarried ont, There wore the usual number of side attractions, all of whioh came for a great deal of attention. Messrs Williams | and Kembol, of Kaiti, bad a splendid exhibition of Lynda Soap, being in the form of a baudsomo monument to the famous

a very nioe assortment of oonfootionory boiog plaoed on view. Tbo catering was in the bands of Mr J. Erskino, who was unremitting in his efforts to promote the comfort of those present. Judging was commenced at balf past nine, and the day's programme was concluded at halfpast one, general satisfaction being expressed at the awards made. As usual there was a very fine show of Implements, all the leading commercial firms having large exhibits. Particular attention was attraotsd to tho display

made by Messrs Williams and Kettle, Common, Shelton and Co, Dalgety and Co., N.Z. Loan and Meroantiie Coy., Murray, Roberts and Co., Messrs Davys, Third and Mitchell, J. H. Ormond, Mr A. Thomson of the Gisborne Nursery, and Messrs Taylor and Hodgeson. All the firms mentioned have attendants in charge, and every information is given to visitors, Amongst looai industries the Okitn faetory

has a very large exhibit of bacon, hams, butter, etc., whioh is shown to the utmost

advantage.
