BUILDERS' ASSOCIATION.
(Per Press Association.) Timaru, last night.
The sixth annual meeting of the Federal Council of Builders’ Association opened here to-day, when delegates were present from all parts of the colony, Mr W. Jacques, of Chrißtohurch, president of the Counoil, presiding. The visiting delegates wore formally welcomed by the Mayor. The annual report was road by the president. It mentioned that North Otago, with a membership of 33, joined during the year, and Waikato hud applied far affiliation. The rules of the federat-ou had been registered under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1902. The drawing up conditions of contract had been the most important work of the year, and then consideration in confersnoe with architects would bo the most impoitaot of this ing. Considerable discussion took place on the bearing of the Arbitration Court awards and industrial agreements on the building trade. On the mot’on of Mr England (Christchurch), it was resolved to recommend that no agreements be made between associations and unions, except xjndec a direct award of the Court. It was also resolved that united action be taken by the affiliated associations in regard to the elcotion of representatives of the Arbitration Courts, and the council
adopted a clause in the Auckland engineers’ award re the dismissal of an apprentice. It was resolved that the Executive appoint a legal adviser to whom in tricatß questions can be submitted before action is taken. Arrangements were made for a conference with representative architects re the conditions of contract to-mor-row morning.
