BAND CONTEST.

.(Per Press Association.) Palmerston North, last night,

The music for the North Island Brass Band contest, to be held at Hawora, was opened yesterday by Mr S. M. Cohen, president of the Association of Music. It is as follows : Grand selections (1) Renaulis Roland a Ronceveaux (as arranged especially for tho Grand National Bands 1000 Guinea Festival at Crystal Palace) ; (2) Letoile do Nord (stars by W. Worth) by Meyerbeer, arranged by Bimmer; the qaick-step competition music will be “ Mount Egmont," composed by Mr G. O. Trassell, Waihi bandmaster. The musio is now in tho hands of Mr B. Holben, and will be distributed to various coutsstiug bauds immediately. Those who will go to ballot for the position of judge are Messrs S. Wolf (Dunedin), F. J. Mellor (Sydney), D. R. Squanse (Dunedin), W. S. King (Christchurch), T. Herd (Wellington), E. Hulse (Auckland), and J. Schwartz (Wellington).
