The Magistrate held that they were licensed premises, and fined defendant 405 and costs Palmorston North, last m'ght. Mr Pirani had a good hearing at his meeting, and a voto of confidence was carried. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Veterans’ Association to-day the Governor was re-elected president. It was announced that the King had given his patronage to the Association. The meeting decided to take steps to obtain annnal contributions to found a Veterans’ Home. Christchurch, last night.
The weekly review of the Exhibition states that North Otago has taken up the project enthusiastically. It was decided by the Executive that Mr Tom Pollard should take charge of the entertainments. The recommendations of the Committee re band contests was adopted. It was decided that the ceremony of the foundation stone should take place cn Anniversary Day, December 18, also to engage a permanent orchestra. A conference of the shipping companies and Transport Committee in regard to transport was approved, and it was decided to appoint a travelling representative to work up the outlying districts, so as to secure a representative display of Now Zealand manufactures.
