Sydney, Oofober 17. A vosbol from Solomon Islands brings nows of the foundering of tho American four-masted barque Susquehanna. The orew and two-passengers, Mr and Mrs Elwell, arrived in boats eafely at the Solomons on September 8. Tbe Susquehanna loft Nohone, New Caledonia, on August 23rd for Delaware breakwater with a cargo of chrome ore. She ran into bad weather shortly after being a couple of days out. The barque opened out gradually and filloa with water. , . After consultation the officers decided to abandon the vessel. A heavy sea was runniog. , , , . After much difficulty the succeeded in launching the boats, which, with all safely aboard, shaped a course for the Solomons, 500 miles distant. _ Tbe journey ocoupiod a week. _ Those in the boats Buffered great privations owing to oxposure to bad weather and the ehort supply of food and water. All behaved splendidly, especially Mrs Elwell. When last seen the Susquehanna was fast settling dowD.
