The shareholders in the Gisborne Sheepfarmera’ Frozen Meat Company are entitled to hearty, congratulations on the new acquisition to their fleet in the stoamer Shirley Hassell. The vessel was brought into the river last evening, after a good tun aoross from Sydney. She will take rank as the largest locally-owned steamer, and from her bulk should prove of great service to the Company and to tiie port generally. The officers to whom tb.9 task of procuring o suitable vessel for ’the work to bo done aro to be complimented on their success, for as far as osd bo judged at present, ■ the steamor “ fills the bill” in every respeot. She will be flb'e to negotiate the river on a fairly fight draught, and will at the | same time fee able to do work that is quite beyond the Company’s present plant. Variable winds were experienced in the colony yesterday, and the weather was fine. The sea was rough at Cape Campbell, smooth to moderate elsewhere.
Gisborne's water supply gets nearer every day. Tho engineer, Mr Hay, and his assistant, have arrivod from Dunedin and commenced the engineering work yesterday by a Burvey of the town for the purpose of reticulation. Ho will bo engaged on this for some time.

Tho District Coroner, Mr Barton, yes- I terday rooeived ndvioe from the police at Wairoo: —“Body found near Waikati. Believed to be that of Dixon, who was drowned in the Mohoka river onJnly 15 last.” A constable has left Wairoa for I Waikari to hold an inquest. In coDnootion with the worthy effort of tho City Band, Mr Pickford, the secretary, yesterday handed Mr Bannister a oheque for £6 8s 9d, the amount boing made up with the’ 1 following items: Collection I at open air concert £2 11s 9d, collection among City Band members £2 18s 6d, sympathisers (10s, ss, 2s 6d, Is) 18s 6d, total £6 8s 9d. Mr A. J. Faulkner' of Wairakaia has just returned from a visit to the Hawke’s Bay, Palmerston and VVairarapa districts. He is desirious of starting a stud Romney flock, and with this object in view has purchased 250 ewes and five rams of the best that he could procure. We offer him our best wishes in his venture. The daily steamer connection between Onehunga and New Plymouth was resumed on Sunday. An express train connects with the steamers at New Plymouth for Wellington daily. Tho Uniou Coy’s steamers will leave Onehunga on Mondays. Wednesdays and Fridays, and arrive on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, The Northern Coy’s Bteamer leaves Onehunga on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, returning on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The officers of the Star of Gisboroe Lodge, 1.0. F.. A. 0., held a very successful meeting at To Karaka on Saturday evening. The Distriot Grandmaster, Bro. J. H. Colebournc, presided. There was a large number of country brethren present. Dr Sobumaoher, the lodge surgeon, was in attendance, and after certifying to the good health of the 12 candidates in atlendonce, they were duly initiated. A sooial was held, Bros. DeOosta and Hollier contributing songs, and Bros.Litchwark and Carter instrumental items, also playing for the dances. It was decided that the lodge hold a sooial at Tc Karaka at an early date, half the proceeds to be given to , the Library funds. A committee consisting of the conntry brethren was appointed to make arrangements. 1 The annual meeting of the Trinity Young Men’s Club was held in the Trinity sohool-room last evening, when there was a large attendance. Tho Rev. Dawson Thomas presided. The report and balanoe-sheet were read and adopted, the latter showing the position of the Club to be in a healthy state. The following officers were elected:—President, Rev. Dawson Thomas ; vioe presidents, Major Winter, Rev. H. W. Williams, and Messrs G. A. Beere, 0. P. Davies, J. E, Foster, J. W. Cook, and J. W. Bright; secretary, Mr H. M. Puflett; assistant secretary, Mr M. Cox; treasurer, Mr Rodward. A strong committee was formed to forward the Club’s interests. A small presentation was mado to Mr Skipworth in appreciation of his servioes as trainor during the past year. A quantity of business of an important nature was brought forward,
