PAEROA-WAIHI RAILWAY.

At the fortnightly meeting of tho Waihi Borough Council a letter was received from tbc Hon. Hall-Jon.es with reference to the opening of the Waihi-Paeroa railway, stating that the date had been fixed for November 9th. In reply to invitations by the Council, the Governor wrote expressing his regret that be would be unable to bo present at the opening of the railway function. Tbe Hon. Colonel Pitt and the Hon. Thos. Dunoan wrote accepting invitations.to bo present if Ministerial duties would permit. A tolegram was received from the Hon. Seymour Tliornc George to the effeot that he would have much pleasure to be present. Mr Blow wrote stating, in reply to Council's request for. a more convenient entrance to tho railway station, that a level crossing extending across both passenger aud goods lines would . probably be objected to by the working railway authorities. The matter would, however, be submitted to that department for I advice. Mr Blow, on behalf of tho Publio Works Dopartmeot, re the work of constructing an extension of tbo line towards Tauraoga, wrote stating that tho Council's representations in this matter would rc- I ceive the earnest consideration of tho Go- I vernment.

The sooretary of the Tauraoga Chamber of Commerce wrote that tho following resolution was psßßed at the lost masting : " That this Chamber is strongly of opinion that a substantial sum should be placed on tho Supplementary Estima’er this session to carry on the railway towards Tauranga.” Correspondence was read from the secretary of the Waikino A. and P. Association pointing out that the date fixed for tho opening of tbo railway (November 9) I would clash with the Hamilton show on the same date. Tho town clerk stated that ho bad written to the secretary informing him that the Council had nothing to do with fixing the date- Tbo correspondence was received.
