WOOL AND MEAT.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night., The Department of Industries, and Commerce have received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, 14th instant .'—There is dull sale for all qualities of mutton, and an inclination to force sales. The average

price to-day for Canterbury mutton ia Bfd per lb; for Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Export Company’s 3;}d per lb; for other North Island B§d per lb; for River Plate B|d per lb. The lamb market 1 is weak, inactive, and unsettled. The average price to"day for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is 4Jd per lb; for brands other than Canterbury, 4,\d per lb. There ia a better demand for beef. The average price to day for hindquarters of New Zealand beef is Sid per lb to 3id por lb; forequarters of New Zealand beef 2id per lb to 2£d per lb. The butter market is firm, but the demand is only moderato owing to the high prices, Danish is at 128 s, Australian Ills, Canadian 109 s, Siberian 105 s. Canadian cheese on spot is at 57s to 58s per owl o.i.f. The market is steady at the advanco. Prices havo slightly declined for all grades of hemp, ana the market closed rather quiet. The price of New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, on spot, to-day, por ton lis £3O 10s to £3l; October to December shipments £3O 10s to £3l. The price o Manila hemp, “ fair ourront” grade, on spot, to-day, per ton is £39 to £39 lOs. There is scarcely any demand for cocksfoot seed, and quotations are nominal. The average prioe for bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed weighing 171 b par bushel on spot to-day is 51s to 52s per cwt. Wool—Current Bradford quotations for tops are; 36’s, low crossbreds Is 4d per lb ; 40’s, low, crossbreds, Is per lb ; 44’s, medium crossbreds, Is 6£d per lb; SO’s, halfbreds, Is 6£d por lb ; 56's, quarter brods, Is ll£d per JbjfiQ’s, merinos, 2s 8d per lb.
