The weather at North Shields on tho ocoasion of the match against Northumberland was extremely boiateroue. Notwithstanding this some 10,000 people witnessed the match. It was anticipated that Northumberland would make a gaud showing against the visitors, but tfiese predictions were not realised. Immediately after the kiok-off, Gilletl (Canterbury) scored a try, followed after a comparatively brief interval by a try eaoh to Cunningham (Auckland) and Deans (Canterbury). A high wind spoilt each attempt to placo the ball over tho bars. Hunter (Taranaki), who is in great form, secured three tries in the most brilliant fashion, and two of them were oonverted, the score standing at half-time: New Zealand 22 Northumberland ... ... 0 Despits tbo big load of their opponents the looal men played up well in theseoond apell, and gave a much better display than in the first half. Still they could not break through the New Zealand defence, but the visitors did not manage to spore as freely. Hunter, who played a great game throughout, got across the line twice, and Harper (Canterbury) also secured a try, but attempts at goal in each instanoe failed, the wind destroying the marksmanship.
