At a meeting of tbo North Canterbury Exeoutive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday, Mr Heir, representing P. and D. Duncan, implement manufacturers, attended, and submitted a soheme to oheck the operations of tho Harvester Trust. The soheme shortly is that looal makers of implements should deposit oopies of their pnco lists, which should be taken as standard prioes. If local makers should reduce the retail pr.ee Government to impose import duty equal to four times the reductions, and should the makers increase the~price the import duty to be correspondingly depressed. The following motion was adopted: “That the proposals of the implement manufacturers cumunc id themselves to the favorable consideration of the Executive, but under a.tsred circumstances. We cannot take definite aciion until the proposals ore further considered." The disotmion was consequently adjourned. The president and Mr G. W. Deadly were appointed delegates in the event of a conference being held before next meeting of the Executive.

A man-named Nichoiaß Fitzgerald Was yesterday sentenced to two months' imprisonment for using obscene language. The Bieuhoim Garrison Band, which carried off a large number of prizes at the Feeding contest, was accorded a public reception on its return last evening, the Mayor congratulating the band on behalf of the citizens.

The Otago Ama’ear Boxing Assooistion’s championship tournament was concluded on Saturday before a moderate audience. The results were Middleweight championship; S. MacDonald beat H. Howard, and won the championship. Novice championship: G. Davies beat B. Nelson. Featherweight: J. P. Johnson beat O. Ovens. Lightweight, semifinal :B. 0. Boss beat A. G. Herbert: A. Parker beat J. Thompson: Boss, having injured one hand, was unable, to meot Parker, who thus won. Bantam : 0.
Goodman beat L. Grey. Tbo rowing season was opened on Saturday with the usual proco3siou. The day being fine there was a large turn out of rowing men and tho geno-al public.
