SALE AT MATAWHERO YARDS,
Thpro was a good attsndaoce at the Matawhero stook sales yesterday,but competition was not eo keon as usual and the sale was rather dragging. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and Mossrs Common, Shelton and Co., Ltd,, held their sale at 11 o’clock. About 250 head of cattle and over 1500 sheep woro yaraod. Catile—A line of 200 mixed station cattle from Tarauaki were present, but there was not much demand for this olass. There was a sprinkling of beef bnilocks, whioh realised better competition. The following prices were obtained Cows and calves £4 7s fid, store heifers £3 17s 6d, 15 store heifers £3 10s, 6 young steers £2 16s, 7 two year old steers JG4 4s fid, 4 weaners 255, 40 2£ year old heifers (in oalf) £4, 15 ditto £4 2s 61, 10 beef bullooks £6 10s, 60 20-month steers sold at £3 6s.
Sheep—Tho demand was not strong,but most of the entry was sold under the hammer. The following wore tbe prices:— 141 fat wethers 20s fid, 50 ewes and lambs 245, 278 hoggets 16s, 200 fat and forward wetbers 16s, 275 forward wethers 17s, 100 ewes and lambs 19s 6d, 60 small wethers 16a 3d, 127 wethers 17s fid. Messrs Williams and Kettle, Limited, and the New Zealand Loan and Mercan-
tile Agency Company held their sale at 11.30. About 1600 sheep and over 300 head of oattle were yarded. Sheep—The following prices were realised :—l9 prime fat wethers 20s 3d, 30 empty ewes 133, pen of forward ewes 15s, 24 empty ewes 10s, 42 fat wethers 16s, pen of good hoggets 16s lid, small do 13s 9d, 25 fat ewes 14s, 1 fat ewe 235, 13 fat ewes 16s 3d, 13 do 16s 9d, 114 four-tooth wetbers 17s 9d, 28 prime fat wethers 20s 9d, 236 ewes and lambs 18s 6d, 57 do 21s 6d, prime heavy fat wethers 225, 35 mixed sheep 10s 4d, 28 fat ewes 16s, 16 two-tooth wethers 15s 3d, 52 prime hoggets 18s, 41 hoggets 13s 6d. Cattle—The entry was of mixed sorts, the beef oattle beiDg of espooially fine quality. The prioes were : —Calves 365, 6 young cattle £2 Is, empty oows £3 15s, prime beef bullocks £9.
Per Press Association. Napier, last night, The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company have received tbo following cable from London : —The market is very weak. A further heavy fall in the value of mutton and lamb. Quotations : Canterbury, Wellington and North Island mutton 3Jd, lamb 4gd, beef (binds) 3|d, fores 2Jd.
