ARBITRATION COURT.
'(Per Press 'Association.) Christchurch, last night.
The Arbitration Court award in tbo oarpontcra’ dispute was received by tho Clerk of Awards to-day. Tbe minimum wage has boon fixed at 10s 8d per day of eight hours, and power is given to grant permits allowing inconspotents to work for loss than the minimum. Tho minimum wage to incompetents is to be 7s per j day, or 6s 6d in case of youths under 21. There ore tbo usual clauses as to overtime and travelling allowances. Apprentices arc to bo indentured for five years, but no I limitation is plaood upon tbo number of I apprentices. Piecework is prohibited, and I preference given to unionists. Tbo award I is to continue till November 24th, 1906. I In tho case arising out of the carters' I award, the Court held that if a man wore I employed to drive and attend to two I horses, although bo only drove one at a I time, be should bo paid os for driving and attending to two borees.
