[{Special to Gisborne .Times.) Wellington, last nighl
A deputation consisting of the Hod. J. Carroll, Sir William Russell, Mr A. L. D. Fraser, and Mr Hall, M.H.R.’s, Messrs Rees, Harding, and Ngata waited on tho Minister for Public Works this ovening and pointed ont the advantages of harnessiDg Waikaremoana'waters as a basis for eleotrical enrrgy, aod that it was wrongfully excluded from the list of schemes mentioned in tbe Publio Works Estimates; that Waikaremoana was undoubtedly, tbe greatest power in the North Island ; and that the necessities of tho whole East Coast to Wellington could be met by it for railway, freezing works, timber and manufacturing industries. Owing to its accessibility the cost of installation would be less than that of any of the other sobemes, - Tbo Minister said tbe details supplied by tbe deputation were new to him, and the objeot of the Government was to ascertain wbat power in the different localities would be immediately remunerative and give the greatest benefit. Waikaremoana would be included amongst those for further investigation, and if
experts were satisfied that greater benefit would accrue from that source it would be utilised. He concluded by saying he had not desired to pass over Waikaremoana, whioh would receive the same consideration as other schemes a'ready brought under notice.
The deputation is to wait on Sir Joseph Ward to-morrow to urge Government to take over Te Puia Springe, Waipiro. Mr Harding has been very busy with different Ministers,' bringing before them the requirements of the district.
