At Ghristohurch yesterday a man was fined £lO for givtog a false alarm of fire. Messrs Evans, Nield and Co. wore the aucoesefal tenderers'for Messrs Kennedy and Evans’ new bailding at the wharf. The tender of Mr W. 0. Skest has been aocepted by the A. and P. Sooiety for the ereotion of a produce shed at the Park. Messrs Redstone,band Sons’ Coast poach leaves at 7,‘ o'clock sharp to-morrow morning.
Mr J. A. Hording,has been interviewing Ministers in Wellington, and impressing upon them the importance of the various district requirements,' Judge Palmer arrives from Auckland this evening to eit with Judge Jones in a Native Land Appellate Court to be held at Gisborne. A prohibition order was granted at the Police Court yesterday morning against a oountry resident, who consented to the order being made. Mails for Auckland per s.s. Talune cloeo at 9 this morning, and mails j for Napier, Wellington and South per e.s. Victoria close at 7.30 this evening.
Mr JLisaant Clayton will address the electors at His Majesty's Theatre to-mor-row evening. It is expected that there will be a very large attendance. His Worship the Mayor will preside.
The annual sooial in aid of the Patutahi Boman Oatholio Ohnroh will be held io the Public Hall, Patutahi, to-morrow night. Brakes leave Miller's corner at 7 o’olook to-morrow evening.
The City Band will give a first-class open-air concert to-morrow evening in aid of Bandsman Bannister, who has been seriously ill in the Gisborne Hospital, and has been ordered & course of treatment at the Rotorua Sanatorium before be will.be able to attend to hie trade, A collection will be taken np. Mr G. M. Whittington, the candidate j for the Hawke’s Bey Board of Education advocated by the Times, has been elected by a majority of 35, the votiog being Whittington 185, Burnett 150. The householders of this district are to be congratulated upon the return of Mr Whittington, and he should make a most able member.
The decision of the Holiday Committee, as referred to by the Times of yesterday, was brought up at the Borough Council meeting last evening, and on the motion of Or Bright it was unanimously deoided to ask the Mayor to declare a fall holiday on Wednesday, 25tb, People’s Day, at the Agricultural 81?pw,< : -v;
