I The department enquiry into the charge against the four post office officials in connection with the .notorious voucher obarges opened this mhroing before Messrs Wardell, Poynton and Kettle. AM®!; re ® ~ I ing the obarges against Willis, Mr Wardell drew attention to the faot that Pf e ® 9 J fO P/®' sentatives were present. He •*»*•£.** statutorily the enquiry must be a private one, unless the Governor-in-Counoil di reeled otherwise. The Governor had not done so, ana ho must request the press representatives to withdraw. Willis pleaded Btrongly to have the en quiry a public one, stating that be courted the fullest enquiry, and that tborehad been | muoh confusion and misropiesentatiou regarding the voucher iocident. Mr Wardell stated that he had no authority to grant the request at this stage. The press representatives were asked to withdraw While the matter was discussed. After half an hour’s delay they were informed that they would not be admitted, and that the enquiry would be a strictly private one.
