The Princess Louise unveiled at Blackburn a memorial to Queen Victoria by Bertram MaoKennell, an Australian Bculptor. One hundred thousand people were present at the ceremony. The British demands regarding piracy in the Red Sea have been satisfied. Owing to the presence of a gunboat, the guilty 'were punished, and three pirate dhows destroyed. The owners of British dhows were compensated for a portion of their losses.
St. Petersburg, Ootober 5. The municipality decided to oppose the oelebration of Count de Witters return, contending that the Portsmouth treaty is an expiatory sacrifice for political errors, tolerated by Count de Witte before the war,

In the Assembly the Premier announced that he had been granted a dissolution. Mr Bason rode for a fall, hoping on an appeal to the country to transform his present minority into a majority.
Sydney, Oct. 6, The Governor, Sir Harry Rawson, is delaying his return owing to a recurrence of his wife’s illness.
; In the Assembly the Liquor Bill was read a seoond time by 53 to 14. Its opponents confidently predict its defeat in the Upper House. In the Hines - Henderson case Henderson declared that he and his wife were acting in collusion to secure Hine’s property. At the same .time Hines supplied money to pay expenses in a futile attempt to secure a divorce from his wife.
Melbourne, Oot. 6. The Inspector of Explosives reports that the recent bursting of military rifles was caused by the insertion of two bullets in one cartridge, resulting through a defect of the automatic filling machine. In the House Mr Carpenter gave notice of motion in favor of devoting all the money available for naval defence establishment to an; Australian navy.
