The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. GISBORNE, OCT. 4 1905. ELECTION CAMPAIGN.

Wb have to congratulate the Libera] Association on the tone pf the meeting last night, whan the gathering included, besides new faces, many prominent old-time fighters in the Libera] cause. The Hon, J. Carroll ought to feel proud of the attitude adopted by those who are supporting his candidature, and we may say that their example, is one that might well be followed throughout the colony at the present time. The keynote of the proceedings was that each one was to do his best to persuade others to support the candidature of the Native Minister, but that . tnere must be nothing,in the nature of decrying other candidates or interfering with their meetings. This is as it should be, and if such a spirit is maintained by the supporters of each candidate the contest for the Waiapu seat, though keen, should be free from any heartburnings. The speeches show that Mr Carroll’s supporters are fully alive to the need for activity, and that although the duties of the Minister detain him in Wellington, the interests of his candidature will not be neglected j in the meantime. The committee are going the right way, not only to consolidate the party, but to gain fresh J strength, while at all times command ing the respect of opponents
