AN INQUEST ABANDONED.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. An inquest on the Austrian petty officer who hanged himself from the funnel of the warship Panther on Saturday was opened this morning The Austrian Consul protested against holding an inquest as a breach of international law, and Captain Bosoowan, A.D.0., waited upon the ooroner as the jury left tho morgue, asking him to postpone the inquest for a week. The ooroner consented. Subsequently the ooroner received a telegram frum the Minister of Justice, instructing him not to hold an inquest, as tbe Government did not .desire to Btrain the lotter of international law too far. A telegram was also reoeived from the Governor, stating that instructions had been given to abandon the iqqneet.
