SCOW RANGI IN THE STORM.

A report was circulated in town yestervl day afternoon that the ecow Rangi had sot on to the beach. Tho report fortunately was erroneous, but nevertheless those on the ecow had a most lively experience'. The RaDgi, whioh was proceeding to Ngungutu, got as far as Gable End Foreland, when the scow Tramp, coming from that port to Gisborne, was spoken. The captain advised the captain of the Rangi to run back to Gisborne, as otherwise he would run into the gale. I Captain Burke, however, deoided to go on in the hope that thiDgs would not be so bad as they seemed, but the further he went the stronger the gale beoame, and he soon found it necessary to turn and run for Gisborne again. In the meantine the Tramp had got in before the worst of the storm. The Tawera went out to tow in the Rangi, but was unsuccessful; then tho Nautilus went out and took a hand, and finally the Karoro (Captain Kennedy) was oalled upon. The lines were made fast agaiD, the storm still being very violent. For a time even the Karoro did not mako muob headway against the violent gusts; but the task wa3 persisted in, great care being needed lest the lines should snap. By five o’olock the Karoro had towed the RaDgi past the end of the training-wall —the scow had got further in to the beach than abreast of Grey street—and then making a sweep round, the river was entered and the scow soon made snug before dark. The spectators were worm in admiration of the skilful way in whioh the vessels were handled,
