TRADESPEOPLE VICTIMISED.
(Per Press Associated.) Oamaru, yesterday. There was considerable perturbation in looal business houses when it was discovered on Saturday afternoon that some 20 cheques, approximating £2OO, purporting to bear the signatures of James Breen aud Donald Boss, had been aooepted for payment of goods and cashed by many firms. Suspicion was aroused by the faot that the man in each case promised to call for the articles, but did not put in 'an appearance. The police were out in the oountry searohing for the offender all yesterday ; without effeot, but this morning tbe man was discovered on an early train en route for the Soutb. He gave the name of John Wilson. His pockets were bulging with pound notes, and on being searched at the police station a large amount of booty was found. Accused stated that he was a married man, residing at Dunedin. He appeared at the Court this morning, and was remanded till Thursday.
