Auckland, Saturday.
White, mate of the scow Hawk, states that the main rigging had carried away, and in the face of the strong wind the Hawk had to cross tbe Hoki&Dga bar against the signal “ Dangerous on bar.” Thß Hawk shipped two seas. The second oarried Captain McDermott and the mats (White) overboard. The latter seized the gnnwaie of tbe boat and saved himself, but Captain McDermott was lost. It was impossible to mako any effort to resoue him, as a high sea hid everything else from view. > : .
Hokianga Heads, Saturday. The. Hawk was sighted by the signalman at the flagstaff at tbe South Head at 11 a.m., bearing right down with a very strong breeze. The ebb tide ball was hoisted, but the"soow came on. The scow continued her course till she gat on the bar. Midway aoross a huge sea broke over the vessel, and she broached-10. Captain McDermott was washed overboard and lost. The vessel came right ever the South Spit, whish is always a dangerous place. It was a miracle that the Hawk did not capsize with all hands.
