RAID ON GAMBLERS.

Sydney, September 23. At the Central Police Court this morning the whole of the men were brought before Mr Smithers, S.M.,and dealt with, the proceedings being over in a few moments, The occupations of the men were as
follows : Two grooms, eight clerks, a cabman, a boiler-maker, a billiard-mark-carter, news vendor, caretaker, lift boy, porter, one no occupation, nine laborers, trainer, wool-classer, two gardeners, storeman, coach painter, book • seller, grocer, seaman, stonemason, dealer, and flour seller.
I The youngest in the assemblage were I a litt boy and a newsvendor, each of I whom was 18 years old; the oldest was I a stonemason, agesd 7. They were charged with being, withI out lawful excuse, in two buildings in I Market-street, kept and used as common gaming houses. A plea of guilty was entered, and after argument Mr Smithers said. ‘-My col 1 leagues and I have come to an arrangement concerning the fine to be imposed in these cases. Each of the accused is I fined JGS, or one month’s hard labor. All the betting paraphernalia was con- ] fiscated, with £5 us. found iu one place*
