PRODUCE FREIGHTS
MR LYSNAR’S CONTENTION JUSTIFIED.
(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. The Daily Times, in its commercial columns, says there appears to be a likeliI hood of competition between the rival shipping companies for this season’s dairy produce for the English maiket. The contract arranged with the Shaw, Savill and Albion and the New Zealand Shipping Companies by the National Dairy AssooiaI tions of both Islands, provided for the I carriage of butter at five eighths of a penny per pound aud cheese at half penny. A fortnight ago it was announced that the Companies would likely reduce I the butter freight to a half-penny. The Federal, Shire, Holder lines, with a direct monthly service to the West of England ports, have intimated their intention of carrying butter at three-eighths of a penny, and it is understood they will take I cheese at a half-peuDy. With record pvioes, in some cases reaching 10-j.d for butter and s§d for cheese, dairy producers I look forward to a profitable season.
