Clnistoburoh, last night, A sad fatality happened in the Lyttelton harbor last night, when John Eckman, one of the men working on the Lyttelton Harbor Board’s dredge Man cheater, was washed out of a boat and drowned. Eckmann was in a boat in charge of the after-moorings, when the heavy back-wash of water from the propellers of tlie dredge oaused the boat to capsize. Two life-buoys were thrown out whiob Eckmann failed to seize. A boat went to his assistance, but he disappeared when the boat was 80ft away. The work of dredging for- the body continued throughout the day without result. [

Dunedin, last night. Reginald Grimstoae. the 10-year-old son of the manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Alexandra, was killed by a fall of gravel in a pit in which he was playing with two others. The latter were covered up to their armpits, and thoir ories brought two men to their roscue. The men were not aware for some time that the boy Grimstone was completely covered. Ho was alive when taken out, j but died shortly after.
