(Per Press Association.) Christchurob, last night. A somewhat important oaao was heard at the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court today, when Christopher M. Hanson sought 10 recover £l2 itoui the Lyltolton Steve~ docea Union, damageß for baviDg been provented from obtaining work on the wharves for one month. Plaintiff gave evidanoe that daring the slack period ho | went away grass seeding, and on returning was suspended from working on wharves and fined £1 for being away. He did not pay the fino and resigned from tho Union. For tho defonoo evidence was given_ that the Canterbury; Stevedoring Association complained about men going away grass seeding, causing a sho.Cago of hands on tho wharves, and the Union had undertaken to prevent men going away on condition they tfrore granted preference. Tho rules of the Union provided that no mom her should accept work from anybody out side of the Stevedoring Association without a written permit, and a permit bad not been applied for by plaintiff. Tho oase was adjourned for legal argument.
