AUCKLAND THIEVES.
ROBBING A WAREHOUSE. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. William Warren and Norman Percy Warren, warehousemen, employed by R. H. Abbott and Co., wholesale drapers,were committed for sentence to-day, pleading guilty to a joint charge o£ stealing goods of the value oE £7O, while William, the elder brother, also admitted a ohurge oE stealing other goods valued at £75. Accused made a series oE conEessione, which were produced in evidence. It a>uared that William Warren induced hie la-ether to assist in packing a case oE drapery in Abbot’s warehouse in July, getting a carter named Wright to take it away during the dinner hour. Suspicion had been aroused, and the warehouse manager, who saw the oase leave, sent a man to Warren’s house to examine it. Thinking inquiries would be made, William Warren confessed
and induoed his brother Norman to hurry
away from the warehouse to empty the oase. Norman Warren oonfoesed that he threw tbo contents of the oaso beneath his brother’s bouse, and supported him in the statement to his employers that the case was empty when it left the warehouse. The goods were entrusted to an Assyrian commission agent for an auction sale. William Warren further confessed to having disposed of £75 worth of goods without accounting for the proceeds to his employers. John Wright, carter, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen goods. Hollis produoed accused’s confession that he knew the case despatched to Warren’s house wbb full, [ though he at first declared it empty. He subsequently offered to give full information to the senior partner of the firm in consideration of £25. He received £s,and gave information resulting in William Warren’s arrest. Accused was committed | to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £2OO each. Similar hail was allowed the two Warrens.
