SALVATION ARMY.
SALE OP WORK. The sale of work in connection with the Salvation Army was opened in the Barracks last evening by his Worship the Mayor, There was a very large attendance, and the ladies in the various stalls were kept busy supplying the needs of their customers. The hall was prettily decorated with an array of flags, ferns, and Chinese lanterns. Tho flower stall, under the supervision of Misses Huston and Oalcott, was well patronised, and the drapery stalls in the charge of Mesdames Rooke and Sawyer, and Slattery and Morgan also did a brisk trade. Misses Gray and Holden were kept bnsy in attending to the stall for fancy drapery, and Miss Burgess was entrusted with the stall for fancy goods. The oonfeotionary department was under Mesdamo3 Coleman and Thompson, and Mesdames Gray and Heczler had charge of the refreshment room. Mesdames Yardley and Forrest dispensed the toys from the gift tree, which was artistically arranged in the centre of the hall. .The “ Telegraph ” was successfully carriod out by Misses Gilbert and Hill. A nail driving competition for ladies occasioned much merriment. There wsb ' a large entrance, the final being oontested by Mesdames Sawyer and Lindsay, the latter winning. The City Band were in attendance, and played several selections. The City Orobestra rendered valuable assistance. The sale of work will be continued this evening, when admission will be by silver coin.
