Tho Emperor Josef’s condition is practically an ultimatum. Ho declared that revision of economic arrangements was only possible by a compromise between the two halves of the monarchy. The fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the first railway lino in Australia, from Sydney to Parramatta, is being celebrated to-day, Trains on the various suburban lines are decorated. The chief feature of the celebration is the exhibition of ancient and up-to-date railway appliances, opened by the Governor during the aiternoon. One exhibit shows the first train that ran, side by side with the present day Pullman express train, affording an object lesson of the progress made. The electrical branch of the display is the finest ever witnessed in Sydney.
