Mr W. Liseant Clayton addressed a i large meeting of eleotors in the Waimata . Hall on Monday evening. Mr Watson i was voted to the chair, and the candidate : made a very favorable impression on his hearers. The speech was largely a criticism on the Government and its policy and maladministration. The freehold question was largely dealt with, and its advantages to the State and the colonists pointed out.. The Native policy of tho present Minister was exposed aDd its utter uselessness emphasised, Other points touched on were country franohise, oo operative labor, and Customs tariff, Tho wanton extravagance of the Govern* ment came in for a severe handling and their action in the matters of book-keep* ing and audit explained and condemned. At tho conclusion of tho meeting a vote of thanks to Mr ClSyton for his able address was carried on the motion of Mr H. Kenway, and Beoonded by Mr A. MoPhail.
