The recent trouble between the Canterbury College students and the Professorial Board was brought up at a meeting of the Board of Governors to-day, when a letter was reoeived from 15 students appealing to the Board from the decision of the Professorial Board lining them £1 each for breaohea of discipline committed last diploma day. The writers claimed that the imposition of any fine exceeding 2s fid was ultra vire*. A motion was adopted upholding the decision of the Professorial Board, and the mover stated that misrepresentation had been caused by a telegram sent through the oolony, and a meaning foreign to the faots had been twisted into the matter. It was not stated in some papers that it was only the academic gowns of the ladies that had been taken from tho lady students’ college and plaoed in another room. Ab a result of a conference) between representatives of the North Canterbury Timber MerohantB 1 Association and tho West Coast Timber Trading Company it is probable that timber to be used in building the New Zealand International Exhibition will be obtained on the West Coast. It is estimated that fonr million feet will bo required, costing over £20,000.
