SWIMMING ASSOCIATION.
XEer Press Association.) Chrißtoharob, last night. At a meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the Now Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, held to-day, a letter was received from the secretary of the Council of the New Zealand Association, asking the opinion of the Centre on the advisability of seeing that nothing bad been done in Auckland since the inception of the humane branch of shifting the headquarters of that braneh to Chrißtohurch. A letter on the subject was received from the Wellington Centre, stating that the humane branch appeared to be an almost useless body. It collected d£66 18s 4d, which it was supposed to distribute amongst the centres, but so far had neither done that nor any work that oould be learned. Wellington centre suggested (1) that the humane branch be disbanded, and that the council undertake
its dutes; (2) that tbe Government grant be kept as a separate account, and after council has retained a sum estimated to cover known demands the balance be distributed among the centres as early as possible; (8) that a registrar of all New Zealand championship events be kept. Owing to the email attendance it was decided to postpone decision on the matter until the nest meeting of the Christchurch oentre.
